Iran-backed Houthi rebels struck a residential area in Yemen's third-largest city, killing two teenage girls. The strike on Tuesday renewed attention to the dangers faced by civilians in Taiz.

The escalating fighting shattered a 2022 ceasefire deal that largely stopped fighting in Yemen's civil war.

The Houthis have repeatedly attacked airports and oil infrastructure across the kingdom with drones and missiles that can change direction during flight, posing a challenge to interceptors.

At various times over the last decade, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Britain and Israel have carried out punishing air raids on the rebels — only to see them grow even stronger.
